TOP TEN WAYS YOUR ENVIRONMENT IS MAKING YOU (and you family) FAT

Put on a few pounds, lately? You’re not alone. One third of adult Americans are clinically obese. Another third are overweight. And that’s not all! Obesity is now so common among American children that physicians have come up with a nickname for an alarming new syndrome: Diabesity. It’s the combination of childhood obesity and Type 2 Diabetes (formerly known as Adult Onset Diabetes). This syndrome results in obesity, diabetes, heart disease and other “older adult” ailments as early as childhood and it’s life threatening. Doctors estimate that one out of every two American children born in the year 2000, will develop Diabesity. In some minorities it’s two out of three! According to recent statistics, if the current trend continues, every American will be fat by the year 2032!

The human genome hasn’t changed, so what the heck’s going on here?? Well, if it’s not “nature“, then it must be “nurture“, also known as Your Environment. Take a look at the list below. Are any of these elements part of your environment? If so, you’ll want to explore re-designing your personal environments at the CoachVille Fully Alive Community at http://dbc526.cvcommunity.com

1. Used your computer, recently? If you’re like most Americans, you’re finding all kinds of tasks are much easier and faster to do on your computer. Everything from paying bills online, to shopping for clothes, to researching a paper are all easier than going to the post office, the shopping mall and the library. And that’s good! But, as convenient as all those things used to be a decade or so ago, they still required more effort, more steps and more calories to perform and if you haven’t cut back on your eating in equal measure, then that means more fat on your body.

2. Does the lady of the house have a job? If so, then the family probably eats out more. Americans eat away from home or get delivery far more than they did a few decades ago, because most folks don’t have time to cook, these days. Restaurants and fast food joints tend to prepare tasty high-calorie meals. Those extra calories mean more fat on you.

3. Did your parents grow up in the Depression? Then you probably were taught to “clean your plate, because children in _______ are starving.” Waste not, want not, is a great motto to live by, unless what you’ve got is way too much, already. If you’re eating everything in sight, then that means more fat on you.

4. Been super sized, lately? Restaurants and fast-food places discovered a couple of decades ago that they can make higher profits by selling larger portions. Everybody likes a bargain and anyway you need a 42 oz. soda to wash down that wheel-barrel sized tub of popcorn, right? Trouble is, that and the fast food meal you had for dinner add up to two or three times the number of calories you can afford in a day and guess where those extra calories are going?

5. Did you ever wonder where all that extra food comes from? American farmers are currently producing roughly twice as many calories as the American population needs to eat. And if they’re going to produce it, then they’ve got to sell it. Enter the advertising industry, which is very good at selling us stuff, even if we don’t need it. And research shows that once we’ve got it, we tend to eat it (all). More fat on you, again!

6. Do you hire other folks to do your chores? Now that American workers (including women) are producing more then ever, we have more money, but less time. Lots of us are hiring other people to do our chores. Everything from cleaning the house, to mowing the lawn, to picking up the groceries, is getting done by somebody else. More time for you at your desk means fewer calories burned. Again, if you’re eating the same amount, you’re going to get fat.

7. Commuting to your home office? Those of us who are working from home are saving several hours a week by not commuting. That’s great, because commutes are exhausting! Whether your commute was in a car, a bus or a train, all that movement burned calories. And you know where unburned calories go…

8. Where’s the remote? Scientists predicted decades ago that we would get fat because we watch too much TV. People didn’t get up for hours, except to change the channel. Then the TV remote was invented and we didn’t get for hours, period. That’s nothing! In today’s world we have remotes for the stereo, the air conditioner, even the blinds. If we could figure out how to use the bathroom by remote, we wouldn’t get up all day! Guess where the fat goes?

9. Do your kids go to public school? If so, then they probably eat chips, soda and other junk foods from a vending machine and the cafeteria is serving tacos, pizza, and hamburgers. All that high fat, high carb food is fattening and on top of that, schools are eliminating physical education to save money. All food and no play makes your kids fat and may shorten their lives.

10. Love computer games? If you (or your kids) are hooked on them, then you probably are spending a significant part of each day moving nothing more then a couple of fingers. Remember how you used to play? Remember bikes, softball, dancing to your favorite record? When even your play is sedentary, you’re really not burning the fat!

Okay, this is a pretty discouraging list, unless you remember that in a world so full of choices, you have the opportunity to choose what makes you happy. So if your environment is making you fat or unhappy for any reason, then one of the easiest ways to change is to re-design it. Does that mean you have to give up foods you love or do exercise you hate? No, surprisingly, when environmental design is done well, the benefits are so powerful, you don’t miss anything!
You just enjoy having the life you’ve always wanted.

TOP TEN REASONS TO TRANSITION FROM PERSONAL TRAINING TO COACHING
(or combine the two)

1. A great Coach can transform a client's entire life. With that kind of value to offer, coaches not only have wonderfully fulfilling careers, but they can charge more than Personal Trainers. Much more.

2. Coaches usually spend much less time per month with each of their clients than Personal Trainers do, so even though they make more money per hour, a greater number of potential clients can afford their services. And once you are a trained as a coach, you will be able to charge more to your Personal Training clients also, because they will perceive you as more valuable than other Personal Trainers. (because you are!)

3. With Coaching, you are equipped to work with the whole client, not just their physical body. You help them develop mentally, spiritually, and emotionally, as well. This enables you to expand the number of services you can provide, which makes you much more attractive to a larger client base.

4. Coaching is never boring or repetitive, which is a major complaint of many Personal Trainers. You won't spend your career counting to ten!

5. Coaching is usually done over the phone. No more driving from client to client or maintaining an expensive fitness studio. Plus, you and your clients will never need to cancel appointments due to illness or injury. And, if you want to travel, you can coach your clients from wherever you are!

6. Most Coaches charge by the month for three coaching session per month. This means, in effect, they have sixteen paid weeks of vacation per year! And they don't have to worry about interrupting their clients work-out schedules when they are away, because ther clients already work out on their own!

7. As a Coach, you will eliminate needy clients who just "can't" work out unless you're actually in the room with them. In fact, since coaching grows the "whole" client and requires the client to take responsibility for their lives, the quality of clients that you will attract, will be higher in every way!

8. Coaching is interdevelopmental. You will challenge and grow yourself, much more intellectually, spiritually, emotionally - and financially!

9. As a Coach, you will be trained (by your Mentor Coach and your training school) on how to successfully grow and run your business.

10. Coaching is the Next Big Thing in Fitness! Get in on the ground floor, now, so you can make your mark, be a leader and earn a great living!

THE TOP TEN THINGS I DO FOR MY FITNESS CLIENTS

People ask me, "But, what does a Fitness Coach do? If a Personal Trainer teaches a client to work out, what can a Fitness Coach do over the phone??" First of all, a Fitness Coach can work with you in person, but there is A lot I can do for you over the phone or even via email. As an experienced Personal Trainer, I can tell you it's usually not the work out that's holding the client back, but something that's showing up somewhere else in the client's life. A Fitness Coach is trained to ask powerful questions that uncover the true path to success for you, as an individual. Real Health, also known as being Fully Alive, occurs when the client achieves wholeness by integrating fitness in Body, Spirit, Mind, and Emotions. Here are ten specific things I give to my clients:

1. ACCOUNTABILITY. I’m always there at the appointed time, even when you wish I wasn't!;-) I know what your goals are. I know what you promised to do to reach your goals and I won't let you forget about it. I'm not the Fitness Police, but I do care about your success! Benefit to you: It's so much easier to stick to your plan when someone else cares and is paying attention, that reaching your goal becomes almost effortless!

2. KNOWLEDGE. I know what works for most folks and what doesn't. I'll keep you on track with what works. Benefit to you: You stop wasting time and effort (and stop feeling uncertain!) and start reaching your goals much faster!

3. I'm a PARTNER in your success. Your success is my success and I expect success! I'll keep supporting you and challenging you until you succeed! Benefit to you: Synergy occurs when you work with a coach, you can achieve far more than you could alone. Far more.

4. I'll help you UNBLOCK your blocks. Not being able to lose weight or stick with a work out schedule is usually a symptom of something else. We'll get to the source of the problem and handle it completely. Once that happens, there's very little backsliding. Benefit to you: Most people who successfully change their habits backslide after a while, because they haven't changed the need for the habit. Coaching gets to the source of the problem, so you can make permanent changes.

5. I'll SUPPORT you to create a lifestyle that's both successful and easy! (Hint: Everything gets a lot easier when how you live your life is in line with your values.) Benefit to you: Change can be difficult and scary, but with the right support, it's easy and fun!

6. I'll help you IDENTIFY what you really want in life! (It's surprising how often people really don't know.) Benefit to you: I'll ask you questions that will help you get to know yourself and what you want far better than ever. You can't achieve it if you don't know what "it" is!

7. HONESTY. I'll tell you the truth when no one else will. And I'm not just talking about the hard truths. I'll tell you how terrific you are (because you really are) and I'll remind you when you could do more. Benefit to you: Most of us have blind spots. I'll be you "honesty mirror" so you can see who you are, clearly. If you want to be successful in the Real World, you've got to deal with what's real.

8. MOTIVATION & INSPIRATION. One of my clients calls me "Motivation for hire." I'll keep reminding you about what’s important to you, week after week. Most people just need a little extra motivation to stay on track, but when they’re inspired (Trust me, even you can get inspired about self care!) I can’t stop them from taking care of themselves! Benefit to you: Let's face it, "will power" is a drag! With me in your corner, you'll be able to stay on track without beating yourself up about it!

9. COMMITMENT. This is really important. You need to make a commitment to your body and your life if you want to be successful and I can help you do that by committing myself to coaching you to your success! Benefit to you: True commitment is really powerful! Once you experience this, making changes gets really exciting!

10. CELEBRATION. I will help you celebrate every win that you have along the way to creating your best life! Benefit to you: Not everyone in your life will understand what you are trying to do and they may not share your joy when you succeed, but with me in your corner, you'll have a partner in your success, your celebrations and your joy!
